Russia may ban FIFA 17 because it goes against with Gay Propaganda Law

FIFA 17 has achieved great success this year. It is scheduled to be released on 27 September 2016 in North America and 29 September 2016 for the rest of the world, landing platform for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. And after its release, it defeated PES 2017 and become the most popular football video game this year. But now something wrong happened. The cause is that EA Sports introduced a rainbow kit into the game to back the Rainbow Laces campaign, which was started by LGBT rights charity Stonewall and supports the community in sport.
EA’s endorsement of the campaign received a mixed response online. Some users applauded the developer. Others used homophobic slurs and posted footage of them downloading the kit and immediately selling it. The content was a limited-edition product and is no longer available to download. The gesture clearly angered members of the Russian political establishment, who wrote to a committee overseeing the state censorship agency, claiming it should take action against the game for breaching a 2013 law criminalizing the promotion of homosexuality.
Russia introduced the controversial gay propaganda law in 2013, which is “for the Purpose of Protecting Children from Information Advocating for a Denial of Traditional Family Values”. It faced backlash worldwide and has been condemned by several organisations, including the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. It prohibits anyone from coming out in public or supporting LBGT people in public, holding Pride parades, saying that LGBT relationships are the same as heterosexual relationships.
Politicians in the country said the game should have its code forcibly changed – or be removed from stores – to excise support for the campaign. The outburst was in response to EA’s support of the Stonewall #RainbowLaces campaign, a UK-based LGBT support campaign, with the tagline “Make Sport Everyone’s Game.”EA showed that though it’s unlikely that the company will bow to the demands. Dragon Age Inquisition included an openly transgender character, and EA-owned Maxis released a patch for The Sims 4 which added further gender customization options, including the addition of gender neutral clothing, voice style, and personality types.
